bliss landing retreat

The Jarvis family retreat sits within the extraordinary coastal landscape of Bliss Landing, B.C., taking in spectacular mountain and water views at the edge of ‘Desolation Sound Marine Park.’ The property has been in the family for 40 years, with the original cabin needing to be replaced in a manner sensitive to honouring this heritage and the Jarvis’s deeply felt sense of place.

Conceived to be expressive of a long ‘wing’ shaped roof, lifting from the entrance towards the summer sunsets, the design seeks to achieve a type of architectural modesty and simplicity which allows the natural setting to keep thriving while providing a welcoming shelter for both solo visitors and larger gatherings. Copper clad doors, ‘heart of pine’ flooring and built-in walnut cabinetry add richness to the interior. Maximizing focal points and views, the rigorous design concept provides generous living, storage and sleeping within 1500 sq ft. It was also imperative to work within the existing tree framework where the resident majestic eagles perch and fish. All trees favoured by the eagles remain.

Builder: Ben Bouchard Contracting (including all cabinetry, patio and landscaping)
